Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks (34-30-5-0) gained a point in the standings, but fell 3-2 in overtime to the visiting Everett Silvertips (38-24-4-3) Sunday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 8,034 fans.

The Hawks mounted a furious rally in the third to tie the game before Everett defenseman Noah Juulsen scored 1:12 into the extra frame to give the visitors the victory.

The Silvertips scored the lone goal of the first off the stick of Brian King at 11:11 to take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

Everett made it a two-goal lead when Yan Khomenko scored 3:10 into the second for a 2-0 advantage they took into the third.

Portland came back and tied the game with a pair of goals from their Latvian duo just 1:33 apart midway through the third. First, an Everett defenseman fell in front of Rodrigo Abols and coughed up the puck. Abols collected it, walked in and beat goaltender Mario Petit to cut the deficit to 2-1. Moments later, Rihards Bukarts tucked the puck just inside the post for his 29th goal of the season and a 2-2 tie.

The Hawks were all over the Silvertips from then on out, generating several chances, but couldn't get the go-ahead goal, setting up the overtime period where Juulsen notched the winner.

Adin Hill made 25 saves in his 63rd appearance of the season, tying a team record for goaltender. Petit had 24 saves on 26 Portland shots.

The Hawks' next game will be Friday at the Moda Center when they take on the Spokane Chiefs at 7 p.m.
