Tigers Set to Hand out Alumni Achievement Awards

Medicine Hat, AB - As part of the Western Hockey League's 50th Season celebrations, the Medicine Hat Tigers will be presenting their Alumni Achievement Awards at their final regular season home game Saturday March 19th when they take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The WHL Alumni Achievement Award is presented in two categories. The professional hockey category recognizes those graduates who have had a distinguished professional hockey career after the WHL. The other category recognizes WHL graduates who have experienced a highly successful business or professional career through support received from the WHL Scholarship program as student athletes. Previous recipients of these WHL Alumni Achievement Awards include former NHL and WHL greats Lanny McDonald, Trevor Linden, Bob Clarke as well as many outstanding university graduates.

The Tigers will honor 3 members prior to the game with on ice presentations:

Former Tigers Education Advisor Jim Wilson will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award for his 22 years with the club

Blair St. Martin will be honored with the first Alumni Achievement Award recognizing his success post hockey as a urologist using the WHL Scholarship Program

Willie Desjardins will be honored with the second Alumni Achievement Award recognizing his successes at the professional hockey level

The Canadian Hockey League is also bringing the Memorial Cup to the game which will be featured in a ceremonial faceoff as local honor guard from Ralston base will be on hand to transport the historic trophy onto the ice. Fans will have the opportunity to view the CHL trophy on the main concourse throughout the game to take pictures.

The Tigers encourage fans to be in their seats as pre-game ceremonies will begin at 7:30pm.
