Everett Silvertips News Release

PORTLAND - Noah Juulsen's seventh goal of the season lifted the Everett Silvertips to their first win at the "glass palace" since December 2013 in a thrilling 3-2 sudden death overtime victory over the Portland Winterhawks before a crowd of 8,034 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Sunday in WHL action.

The victory, keeping the Silvertips mathematically alive for the U.S. Division title, was their eighth in overtime to finish their season series at 5-5-0-0 against Portland this season. Brian King and Yan Khomenko each scored to stake the Silvertips to a 2-0 lead, challenged to fend off a third period rally by Portland.

King finished a three-on-two with Kevin Davis and beat Adin Hill with a wrister from the right circle at 11:11 of the first period, furnishing a 1-0 lead at the end of 20 minutes for Silvertips goaltender Mario Petit (23 saves), who turned away Colton Veloso in the opening minutes with Portland's best scoring chance.

Khomenko put the Silvertips up 2-0 at 3:10 of the second period when he corralled Lucas Skrumeda's lead toss off the right boards and fooled Hill with a snapper off the rush.

Petit kept Portland at bay for the first 48 minutes of the game, but a costly defensive zone turnover set up Rodrigo Abols' 20th goal of the season at 8:32, a tuck inside the left post. Just 1:32 later, broken coverage left Rihards Bukarts open at the left circle, who finished a forehand deke for his 29th goal and a 2-2 tie.

With the Coliseum energized, the Silvertips survived the final minute of regulation as Portland's two bids to win the game fell short on a Dominic Turgeon backdoor bid and Abols' rebound try at the crease with one second left.

In overtime, Matt Fonteyne misfired on the first chance to put the game away, but came back just over a minute into the period to set up Juulsen's winner. Fonteyne entered the zone and fed Juulsen with a drop pass, who rifled a snap shot over Hill's shoulder to send the Silvertips celebrating onto the ice with the win.

Hill stopped 24 shots for the overtime loss.
