PORTLAND, April 24, 2021 - The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-3 Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

This was the first of back-to-back games in Portland between the two teams. They will play Sunday at 5pm in a game that will be broadcast on JOEtv Channel 22/Cable 110.

Portland took a 2-0 lead early in the first period on goals by Simon Knak at 1:24 and Ryan McCleary at 1:49.

Seattle cut the Portland lead to one at 10:49 of the first. Jordan Gustafson had the puck behind the Portland goal and passed it backwards between his legs to Jared Davidson below the goal line on the right side. Davidson brought the puck towards the net and crossed it across the low slot to Gabe Ludwig. Ludwig snapped the puck past Portland goalie Dante Giannuzzi for his second of the season.

The Winterhawks went in front 3-1 on a goal by Mason Mannek at 13:55 of the first.

Sam Oremba scored his first career WHL goal, at 14:12 of the first, to cut the Winterhawks lead to one. Kevin Korchinski took a wrist shot from the right point that Giannuzzi stopped. Keltie Jeri-Leon got a stick on the puck before Oremba banged past Giannuzzi.

Portland took a 4-2 lead 54 seconds into the second period on a goal from Seth Jarvis.

The T-Birds cut the Portland lead to one goal a third time when Tyrel Bauer scored at 4:22 of the second. Henrik Rybinski won a puck battle along the left boards to Lucas Ciona in the left corner. Ciona centered the puck to Bauer in the high slot. Bauer took his time and put a hard snapshot over Giannuzzi's blocker for his second goal of the season.

Jarvis scored a power-play goal at 11:13 of the second and 11:09 of the third period to make it 6-3 Portland.
