Kelowna, BC - The Prince George Cougars winless streak stretched to four games after their 5-1 setback to the Kelowna Rockets on Friday at Prospera Place.
The Cougars (4-7-1-1) went down 1-0 after 20-minutes, as the Rockets' (4-2-0-0) Dillon Hamaliuk opened the scoring in the first period. Fatigue looked to be a factor in the opening frame, as the Cougars were outshot 10-3 and were playing their second game in as many nights.
Prince George appeared to get a spark late in the second period as Jonny Hooker pulled the Cougars level on his power-play goal at 15:49. Majid Kaddoura's shot from the right-wing actually hit his teammate in Hooker before bouncing in.
The 1-1 tie didn't last long however, as the Rockets scored twice in 43 seconds to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Tyson Feist made it 2-1 for Kelowna at 18:55 on a wrist-shot from the face-off dot, then it was Dylan Wightman converting on a two-on-one rush to make it 3-1 at 19:38.
Kelowna pulled away in the third period with two more goals from Alex Swetlikoff and Jake Poole.
Despite the loss, Taylor Gauthier was excellent in the Cougars' net, as he turned aside 31 of 36 shots. His best save came in the second period, as he robbed Trevor Wong with an electrifying glove save on an odd-man rush.
