FIVE-RUN SIXTH CLINCHES HOME SERIES

Winston-Salem scored all of its runs in the sixth inning of a 5-3 victory over the Carolina Mudcats in the rubber match of a three-game series on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. Marcus Davis' two-run triple knotted the score at two, and he came around on a fielding error from shortstop Reed Harper. Chris O'Dowd, who was making his first start with Winston-Salem since April 24, followed with a two-run homer to cap the club's biggest single-inning output since May 18.

ANOTHER STRONG START

This five-run sixth inning held up thanks to some more outstanding work from Winston-Salem's pitching staff. Thad Lowry set personal season-lows in both hits (2) and earned runs (1) over his six-inning start. Out of the bullpen, Andre Wheeler permitted just one unearned run over two frames before Connor Walsh earned his team-leading fourth save. Walsh worked around a pair of Mudcats hits in the ninth inning.

MORE PITCHING NOTES

Not only have Winston-Salem starters worked at least eight innings in four of the club's last seven contests, but the Dash's rotation has submitted a 1.75 earned run average over the last five games (7 ER in 36.0 IP). Winston relievers have enjoyed similar success. In the last seven games, the Dash's bullpen has not surrendered an earned run over 13.0 innings. Despite this recent surge, Winston-Salem's team ERA is still seventh in the eight-team Carolina League (4.29).

UP TO A DOZEN

Thanks to his aforementioned triple in the Dash's go-ahead sixth inning, Davis pushed his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest by a Dash hitter in 2016. Nick Basto's nine-game surge from April 21-30 was the previous high-water mark for club. Davis is hitting .286 (14-for-49) with four RBIs and five runs throughout the run, which is the CL's longest active streak. Davis has registered exactly one hit in 10 of the 12 games during this streak.

JONES-ING FOR SUCCESS

Dash outfielder Hunter Jones is at or near the top of the Carolina League in several offensive categories. He is one of four men on the circuit who have played all of his team's games. He stands first in games (55), first in at-bats (2018), tied for first in triples (7), third in total bases (95), fourth in runs (39) and fourth in stolen bases (23) in the Carolina League. The former Indians farmhand's .294 overall batting average is good for 10th in the CL, too.

THE FINAL HELLO

Winston-Salem has played every team in the CL except Wilmington, who invades the Triad on Saturday. The Dash and Blue Rocks will become very familiar with one another, as they will complete their 15-game season series by July 3. Thus, 15 of the Dash's next 26 games will be against the Blue Rocks. Since becoming the Dash in 2009, Winston has a better mark against Wilmington than any other team (76-58, .567).

COATS EARNS BIG LEAGUE CALL

The White Sox announced Saturday that former Dash outfielder Jason Coats has earned his first promotion to the Major Leagues. Coats is the 343rd Winston-Salem alumnus to climb to "The Show," with 35 of them coming from the Dash era (2009-present). The former TCU star was a Year-End Carolina League All-Star while in Winston-Salem in 2014. He finished in the top six in all three triple crown categories while with the Dash: average (.291; sixth), home runs (15; T-fourth) and RBIs (72; fourth).

DASH DOTS

The Dash won on Friday in front of 6,789 fans, marking the fourth time this season that BB&T Ballpark has welcomed 6,700 or more fans. The Dash pace the Carolina League in both total (109,177) and average (4,199) attendance this season...For the second time all year, Winston-Salem delivered a pair of triples...O'Dowd's home run was his first since April 24, 2015, while with Double-A Mississippi in the Atlanta system.
