EIGHTH-INNING RALLY PROPELS DASH
Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Dash scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to key a 3-2 victory and a series split with the Salem Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Haley Toyota Field. After Yeyson Yrizarri popped out to start the eighth, Tyler Frost blooped a single into right field off Salem reliever Hunter Smith to ignite the rally. Zach Remillard then flared a double down the right-field line to plate Frost for the Dash's first run of the ballgame. Remillard finished the game 3-for-4, notching his second straight three-hit game. Following Remillard's hit, Smith was replaced by Joan Martinez. But, Winston-Salem continued to rally as Steele Walker bounced a single through the left side, scoring Remillard to tie the contest at two. Jameson Fisher then grounded out to advance Walker to second. With two outs, Craig Dedelow deposited a single into right-center field to score Walker and give the Dash a 3-2 edge.
RECAPPING THE FIRST HALF
With a victory against Carolina on June 16, Winston-Salem clinched its third-best first-half winning percentage (.594) in the Dash era (2009-present). The Dash also ended the first half in second place in the Southern Division. By posting a .594 winning percentage, the 2019 team trailed only the 2012 club (.637) and 2010 team (.614) in first-half finishes.
WALKER, OKLAHOMA SOONER
Selected by the White Sox in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Walker is coming into his own in Winston-Salem. Rated the 10th-best prospect in Chicago's system per MLB Pipeline, Walker is now 26-for-68 (.382) with three home runs and 16 RBIs over his last 16 contests. As a part of the recent hot stretch, Walker hit for the third cycle in Dash history against Carolina on June 14, and the first Dash cycle since April 27, 2016. Although his older brothers Sam and Trevor played college football at the University of Texas, Walker chose to play baseball at the University of Oklahoma. His time at OU on the diamond overlapped that of Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray.
DASH STARS TO PLAY IN FUTURES GAME
Former Dash infielder Nick Madrigal and outfielder Luis Robert have been tabbed to play in the 2019 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will take place on Sunday, July 7, at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The game will feature Madrigal as a member of the USA Team and Robert as a member of the World Team. At the start of the season, the two top-50 overall prospects per MLB Pipeline played in Winston-Salem. Both have since moved up to Double-A Birmingham after impressive runs in the Twin City. Robert posted a staggering .453/.512/.920 batting line with eight homers and 24 RBIs in Winston-Salem in 19 games before being promoted, while Madrigal recorded a .313/.385/.448 line over his last 17 games with the Dash. Since being promoted, Robert has registered a .323/.370/.532 batting line with seven homers in 50 games with the Barons. Meanwhile, Madrigal is off to a hot start with Birmingham, as he is 28-for-73 (.384) in his first 19 games.
KONNOR WITH A "K"
Left-hander Konnor Pilkington will make his eighth start for Winston-Salem on Monday against Down East. In his second start with the Dash, Pilkington struck out 12 Wood Ducks batters in six shutout innings on May 19 at Grainger Stadium. A former third-round pick out of Mississippi State, Pilkington has allowed one run of fewer in seven out of 13 starts this year between Low-A Kannapolis and Winston-Salem.
CEASE TO MAKE MLB DEBUT
The Chicago White Sox announced on Sunday that right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, who was a Midseason Carolina League All-Star for Winston-Salem in 2018, has earned his first promotion to the Majors and will start the first game of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, July 3. When Cease takes the hill on Wednesday, he will become the 365th Winston-Salem alumnus to reach the Majors, with 57 of them playing for the franchise during the Dash era (2009-present). In 13 starts with Winston last year, Cease was 9-2 with a 2.89 ERA.
