Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Kinston, N.C. - The Down East Wood Ducks got another great pitching performance from Alex Eubanks, who fired five scoreless innings, to lead the Wood Ducks to a 2-0 win over the Dash, Monday.
Down East (7-5, 57-25) picks up their 14th shutout win of the season, and improves to 5-2 this year against Winston-Salem (4-8, 42-34).
Eubanks (win, 7-2) did not allow an earned run for the fourth time in five starts. Giving up just three hits and two walks, and facing three over the minimum in five innings of work. Eubanks struck out four and walked two, and was helped by three Wood Ducks double-plays.
Down East got on the board for the first time in the fourth inning. Diosbel Arias and Yanio Perez singled to start, and then advanced into scoring position on a groundout. Dash starter Konnor Pilkington (loss, 1-4) then stumbled on his delivery, balking home a run to put the Wood Ducks ahead, 1-0. Arias has now reached base in 30 consecutive games, the third longest streak in the league this season.
Pilkington suffered a tough luck loss, giving up just one run in seven innings, on six hits and two walks, while striking out four.
Down East plated a valuable insurance run in the eighth when Arias reached on an infield single to third which was thrown away by Yeyson Yrizari to push Arias into scoring position. With two outs, Perez singled through the left side to push the lead to 2-0.
Jairo Beras worked 2.1 scoreless out of the bullpen, while Joe Kuzia (save, 9) remains perfect in save opportunities, recording the final five outs of the ballgame.
The Wood Ducks and Dash play the middle game of their three game series Tuesday at 7 p.m., when Down East sends lefty John King (2-0, 1.07) to the mound to face off with Dash right-hander Zach Lewis (4-3, 6.50). It's a special Thirsty Tuesdday at Grainger Stadium, with $1 Busch Light and Natty Light, presented by Budweiser. The broadcast will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online at 960thebull.com as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
