Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Winning Play
After Joliet scored three runs on four hits in the top of the ninth inning, Bobby Korecky threw away the ball trying to get Joliet first baseman Freddie Thon at third base following a bunt. With the ball bouncing down the third baseline, Thon scored from third, putting Joliet up 4-3.
Goldeyes Notes
Winnipeg's losing streak has now hit a season-high four games.
The Fish are now just two games over .500. The last time Winnipeg was that close to .500 was back on June 11 when it had a 12-10 record.
The Goldeyes have now dropped three-straight against Joliet, including four of six at Canwest Park.
Winnipeg is now 5.5 games behind Kansas City. It's the farthest Winnipeg has been out of first this season.
By giving up five runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Goldeyes have been outscored 31-11 in the ninth this season.
The six runs Winnipeg gave up in the ninth inning is the most it has allowed in any inning this season.
Luis Alen went 2-for-4 in the game to extend his hitting streak to four games. He also has at least one RBI in his last three games. His RBI total in the last trio of games is six.
Kevin West went three-for-four to up his hitting streak to three games. He has also scored a run in all three of those games.
Justin Justice hit a two-out, two-run triple in the sixth inning. It's his third triple in 19 games with Winnipeg.
Fish starter Stephen Flake went seven innings. It's his longest start of the season. His previous longest start was six and two-thirds innings back on June 25 against the Rockford RiverHawks.
It's the first time this season Flake hasn't allowed a run in a start that is longer than three innings.
Bobby Korecky came on in the top of the ninth inning looking for his seventh save of the season, but he allowed four runs (three earned) for his second blow save this year.
Coming into the game, Korecky had allowed just three earned runs all season, but gave up three earned runs in the ninth tonight.
