Redhawks snap Flyers five game win streak
July 10, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
FARGO, ND - The Flyers (19-29) couldn't capture their six in a row and fell Friday night to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks (27-17) 6-4 at Newman Outdoor Field.
Jake Krause's two run single to left center with runners on second and third in the seventh proved to be the difference. Schaumburg let up four runs in the frame against Brian McCullough and Matt Elliott, all of which were unearned.
The Flyers began the scoring in the fifth on a Richard Mercado single followed by a Josh Burrus walk. Tommy Fitzgerald sacrificed them over to second and third and Ruddy Yan then grounded out to short, scoring Mercado. Brandon Newton followed that up with a triple to left to score Burrus.
Ron Bourquin launched his third home run of the season in the sixth and Yan gave Schaumburg an insurance run in the seventh. The center fielder doubled to deep center and advanced to third after Redhawks pitcher Casey Hoorelbeke threw the ball into center on a pickoff attempt. Newton then brought Yan in on a sacrifice fly to left.
Schaumburg starter and All Star Dustin Glant (4-2) tossed just under 120 pitches in six innings, giving up just two runs on seven hits. Brian McCullough came in and gave up three runs in the seventh, none of which were earned, but was charged with the loss. Matt Elliott then entered and allowed one Redhawks tally, also unearned.
Fargo-Moorhead starter and fellow All Star Matt Mossey (3-1) went 5.1 frames, allowing three runs on eight hits. Hoorelbeke picked up the win in relief and Donnie Smith got the final out in the ninth for his sixth save.
The Flyers continue their four game set with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field Saturday night.
