Two Nine-Inning Home Runs Push Rockford Past Fielders

Zion, IL - Two late home runs from Jason James and Patrick O'Sullivan drove the RiverHawks past the Fielders 2-1 in the second game of the three game series. Despite the loss, Fielders starting pitcher John Brownell threw strong for 7 scoreless innings in front of 3,781 fans at Fielders Stadium in Zion.

The Fielders jumped on the board in the fourth after Brandon Anderson drew a lead off walk and advanced to second on a Amos Ramon single. Josh Short hit into a 6-4-3 double play. Anderson scored on the play to give the Fielders a lead.

Rockford was scoreless until the ninth inning when Jason James crushed a home run over the right field wall off Fielders pitcher Matt Schweitzer. Patrick O'Sullivan also knocked another solo home run to give Rockford the 2-1 lead, and eventually the win.

Kyle Ruwe took the win for the RiverHawks with Scott Roehl earning his 11th save of the season. Ruwe (3-5) went for 8.0 innings, holding the Fielders to one earned run off of six hits. Schweitzer took the loss giving up two home runs in two-thirds innings pitched.

Brownell (1-4) pitched for 7 solid innings, giving up only five hits and striking out eight, tying his season high for strikeouts.

The Fielders wrap up the series tomorrow at 1:00pm in Zion before the three-day All-Star Break. The Fielders will send Garry Bakker to the mound tomorrow on Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Family Day.
