Winnipeg Drops Hitmen in Matinee

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen hosted the Winnipeg ICE today in an 11:00 a.m. start at Scotiabank Saddledome. It was the fifth Annual TELUS BE BRAVE #EndBullying Game drawing over 10,000 students and teachers to the building.

Calgary started the game off successfully killing three straight penalties in the first five minutes. Winnipeg was finally able put one past Brayden Peters opening up the scoring courtesy of Zach Benson. A major penalty taken by Easton Armstrong gifted Calgary with a five-minute powerplay in the second period but was derailed by Matthew Savoie who found the back of the net shorthanded to put Winnipeg up by two. Calgary was able to rebound and capitalize on the power play with Maxim Muranov finding the back of the net off a feed from Carter Yakemchuk. Connor McClennon would answer with back-to-back goals before the end of the second period, giving Winnipeg a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.

The third would see a goals from each side, starting with Matthew Savoie's second of the game on the power play. Ethan Moore would put one past Daniel Hauser with under two minutes left but Calgary's final push would prove unsuccessful.

Shots finished 32-26 in favour of Winnipeg. Calgary currently sits tied at 55 points with Regina and Medicine Hat for the last three playoff spots.

Calgary gets set for a pair of weekend afternoon home games at the Saddledome. On Saturday, Feb. 25 they welcome Lethbridge for a 2:00 p.m. start while on Sunday, Feb. 26 the Kelowna Rockets will make their only visit of the season at 4:00 p.m. for another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential.
