Prince George, B.C. - A late Luca Cagnoni strike gave the Winterhawks (36-14-2-3) life in the third period, but the Prince George Cougars (26-23-4-0) held on for a 3-1 win at CN Centre on Tuesday.

Joining the rush down the left-wing side, Cagnoni took a seam pass from Nick Johnson and tapped it home with fewer than five minutes to play to get the Hawks on the board in a 3-0 game.

The first 20 minutes looked much like yesterday's contest between these two clubs, with each netminder turning aside chance after chance. But Prince George pushed in the second period and opened up a 2-0 lead on goals from Jaxsen Wiebe and Carlin Dezainde. The Cougars tacked on a third tally midway through the final frame before Cagnoni sparked some late hope for Portland. The Winterhawks appeared to make it a one-goal game shortly after Cagnoni's marker, but a video review disallowed the play to keep it 3-1.

Dante Giannuzzi stopped 29 of 32 shots in another strong showing for the Winterhawks while PG's Tyler Brennan made 34 saves in his team's win.

Portland heads back to the U.S. for a Friday contest in Spokane. Puck drop is set for 7:00 P.M. for that division rivalry showdown.
