Left-hander Logan Darnell was making his seventh start of the season. He was looking to build off his strong start May 8 against Pawtucket, and in the first he did just that by striking out the side in order. In the bottom half of the first, James Beresford extended his hitting streak to eight games with a flare into left. That was followed up with a walk from Max Kepler and a single from Kennys Vargas to load the bases. Buck Britton promptly unloaded the bases with a three-run double to left-center to put Rochester up 3-0.

In the top half of the second inning Syracuse loaded the bases with no one out. Darnell was able to limit the damage, and only gave up one run in the inning to cut the Red Wings lead to 3-1.

After a single to lead off the third from Beresford, Vargas clubbed a homer over the bullpen in right field to extend the Wings lead to 5-1. Britton then drew a walk, and a laser single into center from Wilfredo Tovar gave Rochester a great scoring opportunity, and with two outs John Ryan Murphy delivered. He belted a two-run double into the gap in right center, and the Wings led 7-1. After giving up a walk, Taylor Hill was replaced by Abel De Los Santos. Hill (1-3) finished his night pitching 2.2 innings, while allowing seven hits, seven earned runs, three walks and he struck out three.

Beresford began the fourth inning with his third hit of the night, another single to left. Beresford has reached base in 17 straight games. Kepler followed that up with his second walk of the evening, and the Wings were in position to add to their 7-1 lead. Britton drew his second walk of the game, and the Wings had the bases loaded again. Tovar dropped in a bloop down the right field line, scoring Beresford, bringing the lead to 8-1.

The top of the fifth saw a replacement for the Wings as Tommy Field replaced Byron Buxton. Field was put in right, and Kepler was moved into center. Syracuse had three consecutive singles to cut the Wings lead to 8-2. Beresford made a beautiful running catch into center field for the second out of the inning. An errant pick-off attempt from Darnell allowed the Chiefs to score their third run, making it 8-3.

Beresford notched his fourth hit of the game in as many at-bats, depositing a liner into left field with two outs in the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Taylor Rogers took over for Darnell. Darnell (4-3) finished his night pitching five innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, one walk and he struck out five. Rogers looked strong in the sixth, he struck out the side, but allowed two base runners, one via walk and the other an infield single.

After a quiet inning and a half, the Wings found themselves in another scoring position in the bottom of the eighth when Kepler drew his third walk of the night. He advanced to second, but the Wings were unable to push any insurance runs across, the score remained 8-3.

Rogers pitched two scoreless relief innings. J.T Chargois worked the eighth and ninth innings for the Wings, notching five strikeouts.

NOTES: Minnesota signed INF Tommy Field to a minor-league deal Saturday, and he made his debut with the Wings in the game.
