Wings Win In Walk-Off Fashion

HARLINGEN, Texas- It took extra innings for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to squeeze past the Texas Thunder 6-5 on a walk off single from Johnny Bowden Sunday night at Harlingen field.

It was a seesaw battle between both clubs, in the bottom of the second inning Kevin Lusson and Michael Garcia hit back to back singles. This set the stage for Johnny Bowden, who looped in a two run RBI double scoring both Lusson and Garcia giving the Wings an early 2-0 advantage.

In the top of the third inning Tim Battle would belt a two run home run tying the game at 2-2.

Heading into the fifth inning starting catcher Kieran Bradford would score Fidel Hernandez from second tying the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Kevin Lusson led off the inning with a single, Michael Garcia then belted an RBI triple giving the Wings a late 5-4 lead.

Mike Wolford came in to close the game in the top of the ninth inning with a 5-4 lead. Leadoff man Andy White then smashed a solo home run tying the game again at 5-5.

It took extra innings at Harlingen field as Bradford led off the bottom of the 11th with a single. Manager Chris Paterson called for a pinch runner, Roberto Ramirez.

Ramirez would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt with one out in the inning. Manager Eddie Dennis elected to intentionally walk Michael Garcia to first with the winning run on second.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Johnny Bowden came to the plate and worked the count full, then hit a base hit up the middle scoring Ramirez from second to win in walk off fashion as the Wings rallied back to defeat the Thunder in extra innings .

Game three of the series is set for Monday at Harlingen field as the Wings send Bobby O'Neill to the mound. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
