San Angelo Colts News Release

Alexandria, La. --- The San Angelo Colts scored nine unanswered runs from the top of the fourth through the top of the eighth, and beat the Alexandria Aces, 9-7, Sunday night at Bringhurst Field.

Alexandria led 4-0 after the third, but the Colts offense came alive in the middle innings. Shortstop Danny Hernandez cut San Angelo's deficit in half with a two-run single in the fourth. The base hit scored left fielder Braden Embry and right fielder Dan Evatt.

San Angelo took a 5-4 lead in the sixth, courtesy of a three-RBI double by third baseman Jordan Marks. With the bases loaded, Marks smacked a double off the wall in left-centerfield. The hit brought home Embry, Evatt, and Hernandez.

The Colts scored two runs apiece in the seventh and eighth innings to take a commanding 9-4 lead. Catcher Bubby Williams had a two-RBI double in the seventh, and second baseman Jon Dziomba and first baseman Steve Rinaudo both drove in runs in the eighth.

While the Colts' bats provided plenty of offense, their pitching was outstanding in the middle innings. Three pitchers combined to retire 15 Aces in a row from the third all the way into the eighth.

Alexandria broke that streak with a run in the eighth, and then scored two more in the ninth. It was not enough, however, as Colts' reliever Steve Merslich shut down the Aces to record his first save of the year.

Colts' starter Derek Christensen (2-1) earned the win, allowing four runs on just three hits in six innings. Aces' starter Jon Jones (3-1) suffered his first loss of the year. He gave up five runs, two earned, on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The win improves the Colts to 16-14, while the loss drops Alexandria to 15-15. This four-game series continues Monday night at Bringhurst Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.

The Colts return home to Foster Field on Wednesday, June 26 to begin a four-game series against the Thunder.
