San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas - The San Angelo Colts and United League Baseball announced Tuesday that second baseman Jon Dziomba is the 2013 league batting champion.

Dziomba hit a career-best .354 with two home runs and 39 RBIs in 79 games. His batting average was 14 points better than Alexandria Aces outfielder Austin Newell, who hit .340 in 41 games.

Dziomba also finished the season with a league-best 116 hits, 24 doubles, and 328 at-bats. He was the only player in the league to record at least 100 hits.

In addition to his stellar numbers over the course of the entire season, Dziomba had a team-high 17-game hitting streak from July 1-21. It began with a 2-for-4 effort against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Monday, July 1 at Foster Field.

The streak ended in game two of a doubleheader against the Fort Worth Cats on Sunday, July 21 at LaGrave Field. During the streak, Dziomba hit .347 with six doubles, five runs scored, and a .402 on-base percentage.

Dziomba's 17-game hit streak is tied for the second-longest of the year. He and Edinburg Roadrunners infielder both hit in 17 consecutive games, and Cats outfielder Chris Ellison had a league-best 18-game hitting streak from June 24 to July 13.

Dziomba, 26, is a career .314 hitter with four homers and 83 RBIs in 230 games over the course of five seasons.
