Alexandria Aces News Release

ALEXANDRIA- Alexandria native Jordan Marks' 3-run double in the top of the sixth inning off Alex Schmarzo plated the go-ahead runs to give the San Angelo Colts a 9-7 victory against the Alexandria Aces.

Marks, who began the year playing for Schamburg in the Frontier League before going to Grand Prairie in the American Association, came up with the Colts (16-14) trailing 4-2 with the bases loaded and two out.

Schmarzo started Marks off with fastballs and went ahead in the count 0-2 before Marks fouled off a pitch and worked the new reliever for three balls before his game winning hit to left center in front of 10 members of his family and girlfriend Lindsay Martin's family.

"I knew I could get a pitch in the zone with the bases loaded," Marks said. "I knew he'd throw a fastball.

"I just battled. I saw the ball well and saw the ball up in the zone and kept focused."

All of the runs on the hit were charged to Jon Jones (3-1), who in 5 2/3 innings struck out seven batters and allowed only two earned runs while walking three and giving up six hits.

Derek Christensen (2-1), who began a streak where Colts pitching retired 15 straight Aces hitters after allowing Austin Newell's fourth home run of the year in the third with Nick Mahin on base to give Alexandria a short lived 4-0 lead won the game for San Angelo.

Steve Merslich earned his first save of the season, relieving Alfredo Cavallero in the ninth with two men on.
