Alexandria Aces to Conclude 2013 Season Early

July 11, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Alexandria Aces News Release

The Alexandria Aces baseball club, which in May returned professional minor league baseball to Alexandria for the first time since 2009, will conclude the 2013 season this week, four weeks earlier than planned, while continuing to operate its front office in preparation for the 2014 season in a hoped-for refurbished Bringhurst Field or in a new stadium.

"It's is clear after two months of operations that the public will not attend games at Bringhurst Field in its current condition," Bryant said. "Notwithstanding the city's work in isolating the compromised areas of Bringhurst Field and cleaning up the safer lower seating areas, the public's negative view of the stadium appears unchangable. We thought the venue might last one more season as is, but we were wrong.

"It is wiser to focus our resources on completing the feasibility study for the city regarding the option of refurbishing Bringhurst or constructing a new stadium and on marketing and preparing for the 2014 season. Operating a team that is playing in front of an empty house doesn't serve any purpose."

When the Aces operated as a professional baseball team in past years crowds regularly exceeded several thousand. This year croweds have rarely exceeded a few hundred.
