Cats Pull Away Late in Edinburg to Begin Road Trip with a Win

June 23, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Cats and Roadrunners were deadlocked in a 2-2 tie until the seventh inning when right fielder Chris Ellison drove in two runs with a single to put Fort Worth ahead for good in a 6-2 win in Edinburg.

Cats starter Roman Gomez went seven full innings and struck out six to pick up his first win of the season. The bullpen carried the team the rest of the way, as both James Giulietti and Wes Alsup pitched a scoreless inning. Alsup still remains perfect on the season, as he has yet to surrender a run.

After both teams each tallied a run in the first inning, Edinburg (13-15) took a 2-1 lead when first baseman Trevor Whyte scored on an infield throwing error.

The Cats would quickly tie the game in the following inning after a Chris Ellison double scored Tim Maitland. It was the first of three RBI for Ellison.

Former American League MVP Jose Canseco returned to the Cats lineup for a one-day road game to face his twin brother Ozzie, the Roadrunners manager, in Edinburg. Canseco was on the roster for the Cats to begin the season but only stayed for the first home stand. The 48-year old power righty went one for five at the plate.

Fort Worth (19-10) have now won three in a row as they are just beginning an 8-game road campaign. They will face Edinburg three more games before traveling to Harlingen for a 4-game series against the WhiteWings.

The Cats return home on June 30 when they host the Alexandria Aces. All seats to the game will be only five dollars. You can purchase your tickets at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
