Alexandria Aces News Release
The Alexandria Aces announce several roster moves.
Michael Calderon has been signed, effective Saturday, June 22. The 5-9, 175 pound left-handed pitcher won his initial outing for the Aces by retiring both batters he faced to close out the ninth inning in Alexandria's 5-4 victory against San Angelo last night.
The former Bellevue University standout was 6-1 in 2013 with a 2.84 earned run average for the Bruins, who advanced to the NAIA National Tournament with a 45-10-1 record. He struck out 46 hitters in 66 2/3 innings and even won a gold glove in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Calderon was the MCAC Pitcher of the Year in 2012, posting a 9-2 record for the Bruins with a 2.61 ERA, seven complete games, 89 2/3 innings, 71 hits, 34 walks, and 70 strikeouts.
The Aces have also reactivated Austin Newell from the inactive list and released pitcher Leo Madrid. Newell is in the lineup tonight against San Angelo. He is batting .312 with three home runs and 23 RBIs this season.
Madrid had appeared in 12 games for the Aces, pitching 17 innings and allowing 19 hits, six walks and six earned runs while striking out nine. His earned run average was 3.18.
The Aces need host families! Host families receive two season tickets, a night in their honor courtesy of the Aces later this summer, "Friends of the Aces" status, and a lifetime of memories. Call 318-473-ACES and support your favorite player today!
