Dustan Mohr singled home the tying run and then scored on a wild pitch as Wichita defeated the Cats 2-1 on Sunday night at LaGrave Field.

With the victory, the Wingnuts took two of three from the Cats in the series.

In front of a crowd of 3,192 fans, the Cats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Pat O'Sullivan. But Wingnuts pitchers would retire the next 16 batters in a row as Fort Worth held its narrow 1-0 lead until the ninth.

In the ninth, facing Cats' closer Scott Vander Weg, the league's leading hitter Greg Porter hit a sinking line drive to left on which left fielder Kevin Thompson nearly made a spectacular shoestring catch. But the ball came out of his glove as it hit the ground and Porter wound up at second with a double. The next batter Mohr hit a bouncer up the middle, scoring Porter to tie the game 1-1.

After Kelly Hunt reached on an error, Stephen Pearson hit into a fielder's choice leaving Mohr at third with two outs. Vander Weg uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Mohr to score for a 2-1 Wichita lead.

Wingnuts closer Doug Hurn came on in the ninth and allowed a lead off single to Cameron Blair but then struck out O'Sullivan, got Allen to ground to short and struck out Michael Bell to end the game with the tying run at third. Hurn's fourth save of the season came one night after he gave up a game-winning homer to Bell in the ninth inning.

Joe D'Allesandro (1-1) notched the win after throwing a scoreless eighth. Wingnuts starter Gabe Medina struck out eight and allowed one hit in seven innings of work.

Vander Weg (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs, one earned in one inning of work. Cats' starter Jae Jung went seven scoreless innings, permitting just two hits, but received no decision.

Mohr was 1-for-4 in the game and the RBI single in the ninth was his only hit in 11 times to the plate in the series.

The game marked the conclusion of the season series between the two teams. Fort Worth won four out of six against Wichita with all six contests decided by two runs or fewer.

The Cats head to El Paso for a three-game series with the Diablos commencing on Monday night. Game time is 8:05 CDT with Lee Gwaltney on the mound for Fort Worth.
