El Paso Diablos News Release

El Paso, TX - The Pensacola Pelicans scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back on their way to a 15-3 drubbing of the El Paso Diablos at Cohen Stadium on Saturday night. They hand El Paso their third straight loss, and in the process extend their division lead over the Diablos to seven games.

The Pelicans jumped all over El Paso starter Josh Neitz, who got very little help from his defense behind him. They committed two errors in the first inning and Pensacola busted the door wide open to score eight in the inning. Only two of the runs were earned to Neitz (5-3), but his night finally came to an end after allowing back to back doubles to start the third. El Paso's bull pen would allow four runs over the final seven innings which included scoreless innings tossed by Jeff Vincent and Juan Camacho.

El Paso's offense was able to match the run output for the Pelicans following the first inning, but never cut into the eight run cushion for the Pelicans. El Paso ended the night with 16 hits and was led by Jeff Vincent who went 3-4 with three RBI and hit his second home run of the season. Jorge Alvarez and Mike Provencher both turned in good performances as well, picking up three hits apiece.

El Paso will play the final game of their three game series with the Pelicans on Sunday night at 6:05. They will turn to Justin Mallett (5-4, 3.67) to pick up the much needed win. Mallett has won three straight games and has allowed only four runs over his last 25 innings. It is a .25 Cent Sunday with .25 hot dogs and ice cream.
