Explorers Split Twin Bill

Sioux Falls, SD.....The Explorers split the two games Sunday at Sioux Falls Stadium, winning the first game 12-6, but dropping the second game 5-3.

In the first game which was the completion of the postponed contest from Saturday, the Explorers exploded for seven runs in the third inning and went on to a 12-6 victory.

The Explorers matched their season high of 19 hits in the first game led by Alex Llanos , Jason Colson and Justin Nelson all with three hits. Colson hit two home runs while Llanos connected with a two-run blast in the fifth inning and Nelson had two doubles.

Tyler Meigs in relief of starter Nick Singleton from Saturday picked up his first win of the season for the X's.

In the regular schedule game, the Explorers had a 3-0 lead going into the seventh inning when Sioux Falls scored five runs, the game winner on a two-run walk-off home run with two outs by J.D. Reininger. That two-run home run came off losing hurler Brett Reid. Starter Mike Phelps had a one-hit shutout going until the seventh inning. The Explorers will resume play Tuesday as they start a three-game series at Wichita before returning to Lewis and Clark Friday to being their final six-game home stand of the season.
