Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Wichita Wingnuts have acquired right-handed pitcher Justin Klipp from the United League's Edinburg Roadrunners in exchange for cash.
Klipp was scheduled to start Sunday at St. Paul. The game postponed due to inclement weather.
Klipp was 2-1 in three starts for Edinburg with a 1.24 ERA. The 28-year-old true rookie struck out 36 batters and walked only five in 21.2 innings. Klipp made his professional debut on May 23rd at Fort Worth and struck out 14 batters in six and one-third innings. The Tarzana, CA native fanned another 14 in his next start during a complete game victory at San Angelo.
"We are excited to give Justin a chance in our rotation," said Wingnuts' manager Kevin Hooper. "He is a great story as an older rookie who is finally getting a shot in professional baseball. Our league will be a good challenge for him. He is still dreaming of one day pitching in the Major Leagues, and I respect his drive and desire after everything he has been through."
Klipp was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 22nd round in 2007, but did not see live action professionally until this year due to a pair of back injuries. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Klipp was drafted following two successful years at Cal State Fullerton. Klipp posted a 2.15 ERA during his senior seson with the Titans, striking out 28 in 37.2 innings of work.
Klipp fills out Wichita's active roster, which had been at 21 players since May 30th. Klipp is expected to make his Wingnuts' debut during this weekend's home series against St. Paul.
The Wingnuts open a three-game series tonight against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Junior Guerra faces left-hander Peter Gehle. All the action can be heard locally on Oldies 92.7 KWME and worldwide at www.pressboxproductionsradio.com
The Wingnuts return home on Friday, June 14th when they play a double header against the St. Paul Saints at 5:05 p.m. One ticket is valid for admission to both games. Individual tickets can be purchased by calling (316) 755-SEAT, or by visiting www.selectaseat.com
