Florence Y'alls News Release
Florence,KY-The Windy City ThunderBolts(49-45) snapped the Florence Freedom's three game winning streak defeating them 5-4 at UCMC Stadium.
Windy City received a spectacular start from lefty Matt Wickswat(7-11). He came in 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA in two previous starts against the Freedom but hardly looked like that pitcher Tuesday night.
Wickswat at one point retired sixteen in a row and limited the Freedom to just two hits until the seventh.
Windy City jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Freedom starter Chuck Weaver(4-2) in the second. Doug Joyce recorded an RBI on a groundout to shortstop.
Kyle Robinson and Miles Walding each had RBI singles in the third making it 3-0. Chad Cregar hit a two run homer in the fifth extending Windy City's lead to 5-0.
Weaver worked five innings on eight hits on five earned runs.
The Freedom made their comeback in the seventh. Wickswat struck out Jeremy Hamilton however the third strike was dropped by the catcher Joyce allowing him to reach base. Two batters latter Byron Wiley doubled. Jim Jacquot then came through on one of his three hits on the night by reaching on an infield single scoring Hamilton making it 5-1.
After Pablo Bermudez walked, Jessie Snodgrass relieved Wickswat. He walked Aljay Davis with the bases loaded scoring Wiley making it 5-2.
Cole Miles then dumped a two run single in front of a diving left fielder Robinson scoring Jacquot and Bermudez bringing it to a 5-4 game.
Wickswat worked 6.1 innings allowing four hits on four runs striking out seven.
The Freedom got the tying runner on base in the ninth when Jacquot led off with an infield single. However, Windy City closer Michael Click retired the final three batters earning his twenty first save of the year.
The Freedom still have a one game lead on Gateway for the final wild card spot with two games left in the season.
The Freedom and ThunderBolts will continue their series Wednesday evening. Windy City will have RHP Daniel Cropper(8-4, 4.24) get the start. The Freedom will turn to RHP Michael Oros(6-5, 2.23). The game can be heard starting at 6:20 pm with Jake Meyer on 1320 AM WCVG and gospel1320.com.
