Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, equaled their best-ever season win total with a 4-0 victory over the Rockford Aviators on Wednesday night at The Corn Crib. The CornBelters (46-49) conclude the season with a 7 p.m. Thursday game against the Aviators (35-60) on Fan Appreciation Night, featuring a Harley Davidson motorcycle giveaway and a post-game fireworks show.

The CornBelters struck in their first time to the plate as Santiago Chirino led off the first inning with a single, then stole second and scored all the way from second base on a first baseman-to-pitcher putout on a ground ball by Mike Schwartz. Pat McKenna launched a two-run homer high onto the left field berm with one out in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 3-0. The advantage increased to 4-0 when Rogelio Noris led off the seventh with a single, was sacrificed to second, stole third and scored on Chirino's fourth hit of the night.

Kyle Hassna earned his first professional decision by taking the win, working eight innings while giving up four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Jon Gulbransen (1-6) took the loss with six innings of work in which he gave up six hits and struck out seven without a walk.
