Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that the contract of left-handed pitcher Fabian Williamson has been purchased by the Atlanta Braves.

Williamson, 23, made seven starts for the Goldeyes, going 2-4 with a 3.63 ERA and an eye-popping 41 strikeouts in 39.2 innings pitched.

Prior to joining Winnipeg this season, Williamson saw action with the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics organizations.

This marks the first time a Goldeyes player has been picked up by a Major League organization since infielder Wes Long's contract was purchased by the Florida Marlins in August of 2010. Williamson is the 61st member of the Goldeyes to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization.

Williamson will leave Winnipeg tomorrow and report to the Braves' Single-A affiliate Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League.

The Goldeyes now have 21 players on their active roster, including 11 pitchers and 10 position players.

Fans looking to purchase season tickets, nine-game mini packs and individual game tickets for the 2012 season can call the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273), visit the Shaw Park box office or click on Ticketmaster.ca.
