St. Paul Saints News Release
LINCOLN, NE (June 21, 2012) - The clock struck midnight and the game between the St. Paul Saints and Lincoln Saltdogs turned into a pumpkin. Well kind of. With league rules prohibiting any full inning starting after midnight the Saints and Saltdogs halted play with the Saints leading 8-2 going into the top of the seventh inning. In order for the Saints to win their fourth series against the Saltdogs at Haymarket Park, and first since 2006, they will have to do it at Midway Stadium. Since the two teams don't play again in Lincoln the game will resume at the point of the postponement when the two teams meet at Midway Stadium July 3-6. They will finish off this game and play the regularly scheduled game, which will be a seven inning contest. Date and time of the game will be announced at a later date.
The reason the game was called because of curfew is Wednesday night's game was delayed by a one hour and 51 minute rain delay at the start. Once the game started the Saints stormed out to a 4-0 lead and then rain halted play in the top of the first inning. After another hour plus rain delay the game resumed.
The Saints scored four in the first on a Willie Cabrera RBI double, Ronnie Bourquin single and a two-run double by Jose Hernandez.
In the bottom of the first the Saltdogs made it 4-1 on a solo homer from David Espinosa, his first of the season. They made it 4-2 in the second on Salomon Manriquez' solo homer, his first of the season.
The Saints tacked on two in the third to make it 6-2 on Jose Hernandez' solo homer, his fourth of the season, and a walk to Cabrera with the bases loaded.
The final two runs scored on Bourquin's two-run double in the fifth.
The Saints have Thursday off and return to action on Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium against the Sioux Falls Pheasants. It is BAE Systems Family Night and Xcel Energy Friday Night Fireworks. Plus the wedding of the year when Kim Lardashian and Kris Hamphries tie the knot. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
