Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Mike Barrie registered a hat trick in the first period and scored all four Fresno goals in a 4-2 win over Anchorage before a crowd of 2,623 Wednesday night at Sullivan Arena.

Barrie broke a scoreless tie at 8:12 of the opening period with the Falcons shorthanded. He needed just 1:35 to score his second of the night before Anchorage cut the gap to 2-1 as Dean Larson buried his 21st of the year, assisted by Yvan Corbin and Kevin McNeill. Larson and Corbin are tied for second in the WCHL with 21 goals, two behind Marty Flichel's 23 for Idaho. Barrie became the third straight Aces' opponent to land a hat trick when he converted his third of the night with 2:14 still remaining in the opening period, giving Fresno (20-13-5) a two-goal advantage once again.

After a scoreless second frame, Anchorage moved within 3-2 as Paul Williams picked up his 500th career point with an assist on a B.J. Young power play goal with 11:52 left in regulation. Williams joins Larson (752 points), Long Beach winger Craig Lyons (587) and former Ace Keith Street (507) as the only players to reach 500 in West Coast Hockey League history. Barrie sealed the Fresno victory by scoring an insurance goal, and his fourth of the night, at the 17:23 mark.

The Aces (10-29-2 overall) have lost eight straight games for the first time in club history and are just 1-12-1 in their last 14. Fresno, meanwhile, is 8-1-1 over its last 10 games (including five straight wins over Anchorage) heading into Friday and Saturday night's games at 7:00 p.m. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
