Roanoke Express News Release

ROANOKE, VA – Roanoke Express forward Jason Jaffray was promoted to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by Roanoke Express head coach Perry Florio. Jaffray, who had just competed in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game on Tuesday night, will join the Admirals today and play in his first AHL game on Friday night in Norfolk.

The 21-year-old rookie currently leads the ECHL in points (66) and goals (29). "We are extremely proud of how hard Jason has worked to earn this promotion to the AHL." said Florio. "We have always stressed that one of our main goals is to prepare these players in the ECHL for an opportunity to be moved up the ladder with hopes to eventually reach the National Hockey League. Jaffray certainly proved that he deserves a chance with Norfolk."

Along with being named as a starter for the Northern Conference All-Star Game, the Olds, Alberta native, has also been twice named the ECHL's Rookie of the Month, in both November and December. The back-to-back monthly awards marked the first time in league history a rookie twice won the award in a season. Jaffray played the last five years in the Western Hockey League amassing 236 points in 277 games with Edmonton, Kootenay, and Swift Current.

The Express returns to action after the All-Star Break on Thursday night January 23 when the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies come to town. The home swing continues on Friday night when the Richmond Renegades come to the Roanoke Civic Center!
