Williams Celebrates in Fashion as 'Topes Finish Homestand at 7-1

Albuquerque used a four-run first inning to roll to a 10-6 victory over New Orleans, winning the series three games to one. The Isotopes completed their best homestand in team history at 7-1 in front of 7,328 fans on Sunday night at Isotopes Park.

Gerald Williams celebrated his 37th birthday by hitting two home runs including a lead off homer in the bottom of the first, the second lead off homer in team history. The Isotopes added three more runs in the first on a Jason Wood sacrifice fly, Abraham Nunez RBI single, and Paul Hoover RBI double for the 4-0 lead.

After New Orleans scored a run in the second off starter Jason Grilli, Albuquerque countered with two in the bottom of the frame on Williams second homer of the night for a 6-1 lead. The Zephyrs cut the lead to three in the third before the ‘Topes blew open the game with a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth for a 10-3 lead. Grilli (3-2) earned the win, allowing three runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings of work.

Albuquerque (65-57) maintains its 3.0 game lead over Iowa, moves to a franchise record eight games over .500 and now takes to the road for four games in Oklahoma. Jason Wayne will make the start for the ‘Topes tomorrow night, beginning at 6:05 PM.
