'Topes Take Advantage of Miscues with 8-4 Win

Albuquerque did not like the feel of Friday night' loss and responded by defeating New Orleans 8-4 on Saturday night, its sixth win in seven games. The Isotopes took advantage of four New Orleans errors to break open a close game late in the contest with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh in front of 11,188 fans at Isotopes Park. Sean Bergman (7-9) earned his team-record sixth consecutive win, allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings of work.

Albuquerque took the early 2-0 lead in the second on RBI by Abraham Nunez and Wilson Valdez. The Zephyrs tied the game in the fourth with two runs on three hits off Bergman. Nunez led of the bottom of the frame with his 10th homer of the season as the Isotopes retook the lead 3-2. New Orleans tied the game again in the top of the sixth as Jason Lane went deep.

The Isotopes took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of three New Orleans errors and an RBI single by Matt Erickson for a 5-3 lead. After New Orleans cut the lead in half with a run in the seventh, the ‘Topes responded with three unearned runs, taking advantage of another New Orleans error. With two out, Matt Treanor reached on an error by shortstop Jason Alfaro. After a walk to Valdez, Robert Stratton, fresh of the DL, hit an RBI single for a 6-4 advantage. Gerald Williams followed with a two-RBI single for the final margin.

Albuquerque (64-57) moves 3.0 games ahead of Colorado Springs and plays the finale of an eight-game homestand tomorrow night vs. New Orleans. Jason Grilli makes the start for the ‘Topes.
