
Wilkin De La Rosa Activated

(Erie, PA)- The Trenton Thunder (Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees) have announced that LHP Wilkin De La Rosa has been activated from the Disabled List. He will start tonight against Erie. In addition, OF Richie Robnett has been transferred back to Trenton from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). To make room for De La Rosa and Robnett, RHP Jason Johnson has been transferred to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and OF Jack Rye has been sent from Trenton to Tampa (High-A).
De La Rosa had been on the Disabled List since June 19th. He is 3-4 with a 4.30 ERA in eight starts for the Thunder this season. He was promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton on May 8th. He was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three starts for Tampa. In 2008, the 6-foot left-hander made 32 combined appearances (11 starts) between Tampa and Charleston going 9-4 with a 2.11 ERA. The El Seibo, Dominican Republic native was converted from an outfielder to a pitcher prior to the 2007 season, and has a career .224 batting average. In his first season as a pitcher in 2007, the southpaw went 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 12 appearances with the Gulf Coast League Yankees. De La Rosa, who is a member of the 40-man roster, was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on November 15, 2001.
Robnett appeared in two games for Scranton Wilkes-Barre. He was hitless in two at-bats. He was promoted to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on June 29th. He has played in nine games for Trenton since being signed by the Yankees, and added to the Thunder roster on June 12th. The outfielder batted .348 with an RBI, and three runs scored.
Robnett appeared in a combined 38 games this season for the Cubs organization between Tennessee (Double-A) and Iowa (Triple-A). In the Southern League for Tennessee, Robnett appeared in 30 games and batted .184 with two home runs and eight RBI. The Santa Monica. California native only appeared in eight games for Iowa and batted .143 with one RBI. The 5-foot-10 left-hander was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2004 draft.
Rye played in three games for Trenton since being promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton on June 29th. He was 1 x 9 with a double. Prior to his call-up, he hit .250 in 36 games with a home run and 11 RBI for Tampa. Last season, he hit .276 with two home runs and 17 RBI for Staten Island (New York-Penn). He was originally selected in the 13th round of the 2008 draft by the Yankees. He attended Florida State University and left fifth in school history in hits, seventh in walks, and tied for 10th in doubles. He was team captain his senior year.
Johnson was 0-2 with a 14.54 ERA in two starts for the Thunder. He took the loss at Erie on July 2nd. He had been transferred to Trenton on June 27th. Earlier in the season, he made four starts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) and went 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA. He has missed nearly two months this season with a partially torn labrum. In his Major League career, Johnson has made 255 appearances (221 starts) and is 56-100 with a 4.99 ERA. During 2008, He pitched in the Los Angeles Dodgers Organization for Las Vegas (Triple-A) and the Dodgers. He was 11-5 with a 3.82 ERA in 20 games (16 starts) for Las Vegas. He went 1-2 with a 5.22 ERA in 16 games (two starts) with the Dodgers.
Trenton will look to salvage the final game of the four-game series at Erie on Friday night. De La Rosa will start for Trenton against Erie RHP Thad Weber (1-0, 5.00). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Saturday night July 4th to start a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins).
