
Fisher Cats Complete Sweep of Mets, Win 10-3 Friday Night

Binghamton, NY---David Cooper went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs and Rey Gonzalez went six shutout innings as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats completed a four-game sweep of the Binghamton Mets, winning 10-3 Friday night before 4,038 at NYSEG Stadium.
The Fisher Cats (35-44) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Todd Donovan drew a lead-off walk and Brad Emaus followed with an RBI double. Brian Dopirak (1-for-2, RBI) then drew a walk which was followed by an RBI single by Cooper. Nick Gorneault drove in Dopirak with a sacrifice fly as New Hampshire opened a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the second inning, Luis Sanchez (2-for-4) doubled and scored on a double by Donovan to make it 4-0. After Dopirak walked, Cooper doubled scoring Donovan and Dopirak to make it 6-0 chasing Binghamton starter Mike Antonini (5-3). Cooper then scored on a wild pitch.
In the top of the fourth inning, Emaus reached on a fielders choice and moved to second on a wild pitch. He then scored on a single to center field by Dopirak, who extended his hit streak to a franchise-record 17 consecutive games. It's also the longest hit streak of the season in the Eastern League.
In the top of the fifth inning, Gorneault reached on a single and Brian Jeroloman hit a two run home run to right field to put the Fisher Cats in front 10-0.
On the mound, Rey Gonzalez snapped a personal three game losing streak, shutting the Mets out for six innings. Gonzalez allowed three hits, walked three and struck out seven.
The Mets scored their runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mike Nickeas singled with two outs and the bases loaded, plating Caleb Stewart. Emmanual Garcia drove in two runs with a single.
The Fisher Cats will host the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in a three-game series over Fourth of July weekend at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The series begins tomorrow night, Saturday, July 4, when the Fisher Cats take the field wearing the red, white and blue of the New Hampshire Primaries for a 7:05pm game vs. Portland, followed by a Fourth of July Atlas Fireworks Show.
RHP Kenny Rodriguez (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for the Fisher Cats against RHP Jarod Plummer (6-3, 4.16) for Portland. Radio coverage can be heard beginning at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
Sunday, July 5, the USA Baseball National Team takes on the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Stars in a 2:45pm game, followed by the Fisher Cats/Sea Dogs 6:35pm in a single-admission doubleheader that will be capped by another Fourth of July Atlas Fireworks Show.
