Defenders Fall 9-3

NORWICH, CT- The Harrisburg Senators sank the Defenders in the series finale thanks to two 2-run homeruns by the final of 9-2 in front 4,302 on Firework Night at Dodd Stadium.

In the top of the third inning 3B-Ofilio Castro sent a two out, two run homerun over the left field capping off a 3 run inning for a 5-2 lead. The Senators would add two more runs in the sixth inning when C-Luke Montz would take LHP-Jesse English deep extending the lead to 7-2.

The Defenders got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning tying the game at two. A lead off base hit by CF-Mike McBryde followed by a single by 2B-Sharlon Schoop got the table set. RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve drove in the first run with a ground out, then 3B-Ramon Castro's RBI single scored Schoop to round out Connecticut's scoring.

Connecticut had their chances with the bases loaded in the bottom half of the fourth and no one out but CF-Mike McBryde struck out and 2B-Sharlon Schoop grounded into an inning ending double play. The Defenders squandered opportunities finishing the night one for seven with runners in scoring position.

Jesse English (5-5) suffered his fifth loss of the season giving up seven earned runs, on seven hits over six innings. LHP-Cory VanAllen (2-4) picked up the win going five innings giving up eight hits and just the two runs in the first inning.

Connecticut (46-33) will head back out on the road for six straight beginning in Reading (45-33) with a three set against the R-Phils. Game one of the series is at 6:35pm and will feature LHP-Joe Savery (10-1) for Reading and Connecticut is still listed as TBA.
