Trenton Crushes Erie

(Erie, PA)- Thunder Catcher Kyle Anson hit a grand slam and had five RBI to lift Trenton to a 10-1 win over the Erie on Friday night from Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. The win snapped Trenton's season-long six-game losing streak.

Trenton (39-40) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning off of Erie Starting Pitcher Thad Weber (1-1). First baseman Jorge Vazquez led off the frame with a solo home run for his 12th home run of the season. Later in the frame, Left fielder Justin Snyder walked with the bases loaded to drive home a run. Center fielder Austin Krum capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly RBI.

After Erie tallied a run in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Right fielder Brennan Boesch, Trenton scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead. With two outs and runners at first and third base, Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez delivered an RBI double to plate Shortstop Eduardo Nunez. Anson followed with an RBI single to make it 5-1. In the seventh inning, The Thunder loaded the bases with one out for Anson. He connected on a grand slam off of Erie Reliever Josh Kite to extend the lead to 9-1. The grand slam was Trenton's second of the season. Vazquez connected on a grand slam against Binghamton on May 8th. Anson had five RBI in the win, which is the most RBI in a game this season for a Thunder player. Trenton scored its final run of the night in the top of the eighth inning on a two-out RBI single by Designated Hitter Jesus Montero. Montero had three hits in the win, but failed to hit a home run in his fifth consecutive game. Five Thunder players had multi-hit games in the win.

Trenton Starting Pitcher Wilkin De La Rosa tossed four innings in his first start since coming off the Disabled List. De La Rosa allowed only one hit and one run. He struck out five and walked two. Weber allowed 11 hits and five runs over five innings to take the loss. Thunder Reliever Kanekoa Texeira (6-4) was credited with the win in relief. He tossed two shutout innings. The Thunder bullpen combined to toss five shutout innings, and only allowed two hits.

Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Saturday night to start a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins). RHP Ryan Pope (2-6, 5.35) will start for Trenton against New Britain RHP Carlos Gutierrez (1-2, 6.26). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
