Wildcatters take game one from Sea Wolves 4-1

BILOXI, MS - The Texas Wildcatters won Game One of the South Division Quarterfinals over the Mississippi Sea Wolves 4-1 at Ford Park on Wednesday evening.

Jason Beeman got Mississippi out to an early lead when he banged home the rebound of a shot from the right point by Gio Flamminio at 10:21 of the first period. Texas would even the score late in the first period when Brandon Benedict redirected a shot from Kevin Baker through Sea Wolves' goalie Ryan Munce's feet at 19:18 of the first period.

Benedict gave Texas a 2-1 lead on a five-on-three power play just 2:05 into the second period when he stood at the right post and directed Dan Welch's centering pass into the net. The Wildcatters extended their lead when Jordie Preston fired a wrist shot low along the ice that beat Munce on the stick side at 17:55 of the second frame.

The Sea Wolves found themselves unable to score again, despite three third period power plays, including a minute and 34 second five-on-three. Kevin Baker capped the scoring for Texas at 19:43 with an empty-net goal.

Ryan Munce made 51 saves, and the Sea Wolves were 0-for-5 on the power play.

Single game ticket pricing for the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs is the same as during the regular season, with tickets starting as low as $10. Fans who have already purchased playoff packages can pick them up at the final Sea Wolves home game on Friday against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the customer service table located on the concourse behind section 14.

Mississippi enters the Kelly Cup Playoffs as the eighth seed in the South Division, and will face the Texas Wildcatters in the best-of-five first round series. The series will begin with a pair of games at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas, on April 9 and 10. The Sea Wolves will return home to host game three of the series on Saturday, April 12, at 7:05. Game four, if necessary, will be Sunday, April 13 at 5:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Game five will be at Ford Arena in Beaumont on April 15.
