Faulkner's OT goal gives Inferno 1-0 lead

ESTERO, FLA. (April 9, 2008) Mac Faulkner made his first goal of the 2008 postseason an overtime game-winner as the Columbia Inferno beat the host Florida Everblades 3-2 in to take a 1-0 series lead.

The Everblades took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the first period when defenseman Franklin MacDonald beat Todd Ford with a power play goal. Peter Aston and Derek Damon notched the assists for Florida. Steve McJannet tied the game 1-1 with less than two minutes left in the second period when he beat Kevin Nastiuk for his first Kelly Cup playoffs goal. Daniel Sparre and Julien Brouillette recorded the assists.

The Everblades reclaimed their one-goal lead when Brett Peterson scored at the 9:47 mark of the third period. Steve Czech and Damon earned the assists. Jeff Miles' first goal of the playoffs tied the game 2-2 and subsequently forced overtime when he beat Nastiuk at 11:34 of the third. Brad Ralph earned the assist.

The Inferno gave head coach Troy Mann a victory his first Kelly Cup playoff game as coach when Faulkner beat Nastiuk 4:43 into the extra frame. McJannet's assist on the goal marked his second point of the night.

Ford stopped 25 of 27 shots while Nastiuk stopped 21 of 24. The Everblades will host game two of this best-of-five opening round playoff series on Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. Game three will be held at the Carolina Coliseum on Saturday, April 12 at 7:05 p.m.
