WASHINGTON, Pa - Shawn Smith pitched six innings of shutout ball as the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, won their third straight game by a score of 3-0 over the Joliet Slammers on Wednesday night.

Smith went six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and striking out six.

Wednesday evening's contest had a slow start, with both clubs putting up zeroes through the first three innings.

In the fourth, however; Washington broke open the scoring.

With two outs, Shain Stoner doubled off the wall in right field to put a runner in scoring position.

Three pitches later, Jovan Rosa connected on his second home run of the season to put the Things ahead, 2-0.

In the sixth, the Wild Things scratched across another run. Mark Samuelson led off the frame with a double to left-center field. Rick Devereaux followed with a single to put runners at the corners.

The third batter of the inning, Stoner, drove in Samuelson with an RBI single to give the Things a 3-0 lead.

That lead would suffice, as Smith gave way to Chandler Barnard who worked a scoreless seventh an eighth innings to bridge the gap to Orlando Santos.

Santos allowed one baserunner but got the final batter, Netzel to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.

The Wild Things will go for the sweep tomorrow night with Chris Smith on the mound. He will go against Matt Sommo for Joliet. . First pitch is set for 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning on WJPA at 6:55.
