Grizzlies Drop Middle Game to Beach Bums; Magic Number Is Three

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Traverse City slugged three home runs and cruised to a 6-1 win against the Gateway Grizzlies Wednesday night at Wuerfel Park.

The win gave the Beach Bums the series win and the kept the Grizzlies magic number to clinch the West Division at three.

Chase Burch hit a solo home run in the second inning off Grizzlies (54-38) starter Alex Kaminsky to give the Beach Bums the early advantage.

Traverse City (62-30) then piled on five more runs on five hits in the fourth to break the game open. Jeff Flagg picked up an RBI single while Kyle Colligan and Kyle Eveland hit two-run home runs.

Kaminsky (10-5) took the loss, his first since July 16th. The right-hander from Fostoria, OH gave up all six runs on ten hits in six innings.

Gateway's offense was quiet for the second night in a row. The Grizzlies only had six hits with their only run coming on a John Shelby sacrifice fly to the shortstop in the fifth inning.

Landon Hernandez paced the Grizzlies with three hits, including two doubles.

Right-hander Brett Kennedy fired two scoreless innings of relief.

The first-place Grizzlies play game three of their series with the Beach Bums on Thursday trying to avoid the sweep. Right-hander Tim Brown (11-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05 CT.
