NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, dropped a high-scoring affair 10-6 to the Florence Freedom on Wednesday night at the Corn Crib.

The Freedom opened the scoring in the second inning after two were out, as John Malloy parked a two-run homer on the right field lawn and David Harris plated a third tally with a double at the base of the right center field wall.

The CornBelters answered in their half of the second when Sam Judah led off the inning with a base hit, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Bobby Rinard to cut the Freedom lead to 3-1.

Florence added a pair of runs in the third inning when Kyle Bluestein tripled home Peter Fatse, who reached via leadoff single, and Stephen Cardullo doubled home Bluestein to give the guests a 5-1 lead.

Normal again responded in their next opportunity as Tyler Wiesemeyer hit his fourth home run over the right field fence with one out in the third to trim the deficit to 5-2. After Steven Felix reached via single, Ernie Banks Jr. hit a 2-run homer just inside the right field pole to cut the Freedom lead to a single run at 5-4.

The scoring continued in the fourth as Fatse collected a 2-run double and Jim Jacquot singled home Fatse to give the Freedom an 8-4 advantage.

The Belters added a run in the fifth when Randy Wells and Trey Manz each singled with two outs, and Bobby Rinard doubled to the left field corner to score Wells and cut the Freedom lead to 8-5.

The Freedom pushed a run across in the seventh when John Malloy tripled and scored on an Edwin Padua ground out to put the score at 9-5.

Florence doubled the count to 10-5 in the eighth when Eddie Rodriguez doubled and came home on a base hit by Kyle Bluestein. The CornBelters made it 10-6 in the bottom of the frame when Rinard led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Pat McKenna.

Brent Choban (2-1) earned the win in relief, as CornBelters starter Jacob Liedka (2-13) took the loss.

The CornBelters conclude the series with the Freedom on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as right-hander Ross Davis (1-1, 1.42 ERA) starts on the mound for the hosts against lefty Andres Caceres (7-3, 4.15 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 6:20.
