Joliet Slammers News Release

(Washington, PA) - The Joliet Slammers (35-56) were shutout by the Washington Wild Things (41-51) 3-0 Wednesday night.

Tommy Mendoza (4-7) got the start for Joliet and went six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked three and struck out five as he took the loss for the Slammers.

Washington got on the board in the fourth on a Jovan Rosa two-run home run to left.

They'd add another run in the sixth as a run crossed the plate on a Kyle Zimmerman error.

Abel Nieves had a single, double and a triple in the game but fell just short of the cycle.

Meanwhile Joliet got runners on base in every inning in the seventh. The problem for the Slammers was that they never got any runners on base in the game with fewer than two outs. They ended up leaving 11 men stranded on the night.

The Slammers will look to break their losing streak Thursday night as they send Matt Sommo to the mound. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. Central Time and all the action can be heard on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.wjol.com.
