River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - The River City Rascals stranded 11 base runners, five in scoring position, including leaving the bases loaded in the seventh and stranding the tying run in the ninth as the Evansville Otters held off the hot Rascal hitters for a 3-2 lead.

River City (43-48) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jeremy Synan scored from third base on a Chris Andreas groundout that staked starting pitcher Justin Sarratt (2-4) to the early lead. A solo homerun from Evansville's Nick Schwaner tied the game at one before the Otters took the lead 2-1 in the fifth after an errant throw from Sarratt on a pickoff attempt that allowed Stephen Marino to go to third and eventually scored when Corey LeVier's relay throw to third got away.

Matt Sheely homered in the sixth to increase the Evansville (45-46) lead to 3-1.

The Rascals got leadoff singles in the fifth, sixth, and eighth while leaving the bases loaded in the seventh before they could cash in a leadoff base runner when Matt Serna, who started the ninth with a walk, scored on a Patton two-out single that followed an Eric Williams walk, his second of the game and 101st of the season, a franchise record.

The Rascals look to salvage a game of this three-game series tomorrow with first pitch set for 7:05. Wynn Pelzer takes the mound for the Otters against the hometown starter Tony Marsala.
