River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - The Evansville Otters jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Rascals came to bat in the first, stretched that lead to 11-2 in the top of the fifth, and held off several River City comeback attempts to pull away with a 13-8 win on Tuesday night.

Rascal starter Preston Vancil (7-9) allowed five runs on five hits in the first inning, gave up a solo homerun in the second and third, before being chased from the game in the fifth, allowing 10 earned runs on 12 hits in the process as the Rascals fell behind 11-2.

River City (43-47) scored a run in the first after Eric Williams scored from first on a Jeremy Synan double and added another run in the fourth on an error, two walks, and a groundout. Synan would single in two in the fifth to close the gap to 11-4 after Keli'i Zablan allowed a run in relief of Vancil in the fifth but Zablan gave up a two-run homerun in the eighth before being lifted for Alex Sunderland.

Chris Andreas crushed a homerun to right-center in the sixth off Evansville (44-46) starter Adam Champion (8-4) but River City could not cash in on late opportunities, stranding the bases loaded in the seventh; scoring a run while hitting into a no-out, bases loaded double play in the eighth before leaving the bases full in the ninth with the tying run on deck following a two-out RBI from Andreas and a bases loaded walk by Williams.

The Rascals will look to even the series tomorrow with first pitch set for 7:05. Matt Crim pitches for Evansville against the Rascals' Justin Sarratt.
