Washington Defeats Mid-Missouri 14-4
The Washington Wild Things (44-24), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, defeated the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 14-4 in front of a sell out crowd of 3,231. This is the Wild Things' eleventh consecutive victory, matching the league's best ever, which both the Wild Things and Windy City set in 2004.
The scoring began in the third inning when the Wild Things scored three runs. Chris Carter drove in Lance Koenig. Carter advanced to both second and third on wild pitches, and eventually scored. And Mike Arbinger scored.
Mid-Missouri answered in the fourth when Thomari Story-Harden singled to the left side, driving in Alex Derhak and Josh Wettlaufer.
In the fifth inning, the Wild Things scored four more runs. Chris Carter hit a solo homer. Mike Arbinger scored when Andy Hudak hit a fly out to center field. Robert Morgan hit a triple to left center, driving in David Reaver and Randy McGarvey.
In the top of the sixth Mid-Missouri scored two more runs. Story-Harden hit a single, driving in Wettlaufer. Brent Metheny scored on a double by Greg Busher.
The Wild Things answered in the bottom of the eighth inning with seven runs scored. Arbinger singled to right center, driving in Lance Koenig. Chris Sidick tripled down the right field line, driving in McGarvey, Arbinger, and Carter. Andy Hudak singled to shortstop and drove in Sidick. Robert Morgan hit the first home run of his professional career, driving in Hudak.
Matt Brumit (3-1) got the win, working seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, walking two, and striking out five. Stephen Spragg got his eighth save of the season in two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Wild Things and the Mid-Missouri Mavericks meet for game third and final game of the series Monday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Air time on WJPA 95.3 FM and www.msasports.net is 6:55 p.m. It's Paw Patrol Night when members will receive a Wind Up Doll, courtesy of Alberts' Meats and Troyer Farms.
