August 7, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters have traded outfielder Steve Martin to the Chillicothe Paints in exchange for outfielders Mike Spry and David Gingrich.
Martin was an All-Star for the Otters, but has hit .173 since the mid-season break. At the time of Saturday evening's trade, he was hitting .287 with eight homers and 28 RBI.
Spry has hit .290 in 55 games for Chillicothe this season with five homers and 26 RBI. An outstanding speedster, Spry was second in the Frontier League in triples last season with eight in just 59 games.
Gingrich is a left-handed hitting outfielder from Seguin, TX, the same hometown as former Otters Cody Farr. He attended the University of the Incarnate Word, the same school that another former Otter outfielder, Andy Miller started at. In 51 games for the Paints this season, Gingrich hit .275 with two homers and 19 RBI.
The two players are expected to be in uniform and available for Sunday's game against Gateway.
The Otters will play Sunday and Monday in Gateway before returning home for a 10-game homestand starting Tuesday against the Florence Freedom. It is a Deaconess Hospital Two For Tuesday. Gates open at 5:30 with the game starting at 7:05 p.m.
