FLORENCE, KY - The RiverHawks' losing streak reached a season-high five games following a 7-6 loss in Florence Sunday night.

The ‘Hawks took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth but closer Jason Glosser, who entered in the eighth inning, could not hold it.

After Scott Pickens led off the frame with a single, Wally Quigg put down on a sacrifice bunt. Rockford catcher Gooby Gerlits fielded the bunt and made an errant throw to first base putting runners at second and third. Glosser (5-3) then intentionally walked Mike Galloway and the next batter, Trevor Hall, ended the game with a two-run single.

Ted Rowe (6-2) picked up the win despite allowing a pair of long balls in the last two innings that gave Rockford a brief lead.

Gooby Gerlits went deep in the eighth for the 10th time this season and Jeremy Busch homered in the ninth, his second of the year.

The ‘Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the second after Gerlits doubled home two runs and later scored on a single by Todd Dulaney.

Florence answered in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer by Scott Martin off Rockford starter Justin Olson. The Freedom took a 5-3 lead in the third, scoring three times on four singles.

The RiverHawks conclude their series in Florence at 6:05 p.m. Monday. Rockford returns to Marinelli Field on Tuesday, August 9th, to begin a three-game homestand against Kalamazoo.

The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
