Wild Things Make Roster Change
August 26, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA â The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, head into the final six games of their season on the road minus one pitcher and plus one hitter.
Jared Howton, the 2002 Frontier League Most Valuable Pitcher, retired following Monday's game at Falconi Field. Howton suffers from a shoulder injury and will likely have surgery on his shoulder in a few weeks.
The Wild Things will sign left-handed batter J.P. Schmidt tonight in Richmond, Indiana where the team begins a three-game series against the Roosters. Schmidt will fly from Palmdale, California to join the Wild Things. He had played for the Arizona Athletics organization where he was drafted in the 26th round in 1998.
"Since Howton is done for the season with a shoulder injury, we were able to pick up J.P.," said Jeff Isom, field manager for the Wild Things. "He gives us an experienced hitter and some speed in the line up."
The Wild Things are 1.5 games out of first place in the East Division. They lead the Evansville Otters by one game and the Richmond Roosters by four.
