Rockford RiverHawks News Release

Sauget, IL-The RiverHawks were in desperate need of wins going into their three game series with the Gateway Grizzlies, in order to stay in the playoff race. However, an inability to put runners across home plate contributed to a 2-0 loss to the Grizzlies at GMC Stadium Tuesday Night. With the victory, Gateway clinches the West Division championship, their first in three seasons.

Rockford had plenty of chances to score, even loading the bases in the first and eighth innings. Rockford ended up leaving the bases juiced in those innings, stranding a total of nine runners on the night, Jan Ramos stranding five of the nine runners. Gateway only needed to score one run in the first on a Jimmy Reiter home run, and an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh from an RBI single, to earn their 49th victory of the year. Scott Patterson earned the win for Gateway, and he is now 8-3, and Dave Klass retired Shaff Elkouri, Bobby Matthews, and Mark Garner in the ninth, picking up his eighth save. Justin Olson pitched six and two-thirds innings, picking up the loss, and is now 0-1.

Rockford continues their series against the Grizzlies Wednesday night at Sauget, with a 7:05 start. Catch all the live action, starting with the pre-game show on 102.3 FM-The Hub.
